I'm 60 years old and have hunted whitetail deer since I was 13. Since my very first hunt, I realized we hunted a food source.

I planted my first food plot when I was 14 years old from seed I received from the Conservation Department. My first food plot was on a budget.

I've studied deer and what they eat all my life. My first food plots were to lure the deer out so we could shoot them. I soon realized I needed to have a year round food source. There was a set back when I joined the Navy in 1965 and did not get out for 27 years. While in the Navy, I planed food plots in Mississippi, Texas, and many other places if there was whitetail to be hunted. I retired from the Navy in 1991 and bought a farm and proceeded to experiment with many different types of food plots. It seems I could not afford the commercial seeds that were available. We have come a long way in the last 15 years. We now own Ozark Mountain Outfitters and lease over 1,600 acres and plant approximately 55 food plots totaling over 80 acres and they are all planted on a budget. We also have helped many hunters start and plant their budget plots all over the United States from Arkansas, Wisconsin, New Jersey, and Colorado.

The budget food plot idea has become a way of life for me and Ozark Mountain Outfitters and we want to share what we have learned with our fellow whitetail hunters who also have to operate on a budget.
